What is Single-Pilot Resource Management?

Single-Pilot Resource Management (SRM) is the art and science of managing all available resources, internal, external, onboard, and environmental, to ensure safe and effective flight operations.

Unlike multi-crew environments, the single pilot must handle:

  • Navigation

  • Communication

  • Aircraft control

  • Threat and error management

  • Workload distribution

  • Decision-making under pressure

  • Situational awareness

  • Unexpected events

SRM gives pilots the frameworks and mental models to manage these tasks without becoming overloaded.

At its core, SRM is about staying ahead of the aircraft, especially in high workload situations.

Our Approach

At SRMPilot, we take a practical, operationally-focused approach to Single-Pilot Resource Management.

Our training combines:

  • Real-world aviation scenarios

  • Modern human-factors principles

  • Evidence-based decision-making models

  • Instructor-standardisation and ‘train-the-trainer’ frameworks

  • Simple, effective tools pilots can use on every flight

Our philosophy is built on empowering pilots at every level, to recognise threats early, manage workloads effectively, and make confident, timely decisions in the cockpit. Human factors training isn’t abstract theory, it directly supports safer decisions for you and the people who trust you on board.

“Great airmanship isn’t luck. It’s preparation, awareness, and the confidence to make good decisions under pressure.”

Why SRM Matters

In general aviation and single-pilot commercial operations, the majority of incidents can be traced back to:

  • Loss of situational awareness

  • Cognitive overload

  • Poor threat recognition

  • Stress, distraction, or fixation

  • Ineffective or delayed decision-making

SRM training reduces these risks by giving pilots:

  • Clear mental models for high-workload situations

  • Decision-making tools like DECIDE, 5P, Perceive–Process–Perform

  • Workload management strategies

  • Threat and error management skills

  • Human-factors awareness

  • Confidence under pressure

How these tools are used in flight.

  • 5P: Use at key phases (preflight, before take-off, top of climb, before descent) to re-check Plan, Plane, Pilot, Passengers, Programming.

  • DECIDE: Use when something changes and you need a structured decision (Detect → Estimate → Choose → Do → Evaluate).

  • Perceive–Process–Perform: Use when workload spikes — regain control of attention and prioritise tasks.

Strong airmanship isn’t accidental, it’s trained, practiced, and deliberately developed.

Training Options

SRM Pilot offers practical, evidence-based training designed to strengthen pilot decision-making, situational awareness, and airmanship.

SRM Essentials – Pilot Course
Foundational skills in threat management, workload control, and core decision-making models.

No prior human factors training assumed, designed for everyday GA (General Aviation) operations.

Advanced SRM for GA & IFR Operations
Deeper human-factors training for high-workload environments and single-pilot commercial operations.

For higher workload and IFR (Instrument Flight Rules) environments, builds on Basic SRM concepts.

Train-the-Trainer Program
Instructor-standardisation for flight schools and operators delivering SRM.

For instructors and organisations delivering SRM Pilot training with standardisation.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

“This SRM training completely changed how I approach my flying. I’m more aware, more structured, and far more confident in my decision-making.”

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

“Tammy explains human factors in a way that actually makes sense in the cockpit. I use the 5P check and ADM tools every single flight now.”

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

“As a flight instructor, this course has helped me teach clearer, safer, and more consistently. My students are benefiting from it every day.”
